Finally! I haven’t been able to use it due to problems with menus that stem from incompatibility with Wayland (…I think, it’s been a minute). Been using Tenacity instead, which has been a decent stand-in, but it will be nice to be able to use the OG again.

Wait, people want to use Audacity? I switched to Tenacity because I wanted to due to it having no slop or telemetry. I figured all Tenacity users were the same.

Audacity was bought by Muse Group and almost immediately implemented a “don’t you rather want to save on our cloud service instead?” pop-up and IIRC telemetry. Tenacity emerged as the most active fork without that shit and they since diverged a lot from Audacity.

OTOH the resources of Muse Group made this huge rewrite possible. The level of pain between using wxWidgets or dismissing pop-ups is higher for wxWidgets for me.

Maybe Tenacity is willing to throw away their homegrown developments to start fresh with the new code base. No idea.

That’s why I switched too. I installed the latest Audacity on a work computer, after using it lots in the past, without knowing about the Muse group situation. The install kinda tricks you into also installing their Muse bullshit along with it

Im on wayland and don’t recall having an issue with audacity since i switched to Linux over a year ago fwiw. It’s been a few months since i did anything serious with it but a year ago i did initially record ~100 hours of audio on it for a project

There was something weird with the menus locking up. I tried the pacman package and the flatpak, and both had the same issue.

It was a known issue that was going to be addressed via the v5 revamp, but I can’t seem to find the original issue. Maybe it was a Qt thing, I dunno.
