Anecdotal but my phone battery life has been greatly improved since I disabled Google Maps. I was hitting the 20% warning routinely before end of day previously, and now I typically have 30-40% when I plug it in at night.
On a related note, MapQuest offers Android Auto integration, and the turn-by-turn experience has been adequate in my admittedly limited testing.

And yea, OSM has vastly improved in the past decade to the point that it’s just as - if not more - reliable as Google’s maps.

I’ve used and liked Breezy and Overmorrow.
Breezy is fantastic and works with gadgetbridge if you have something like a bangle.js
Yeah, that’s how I get weather data on my smartwatch. Kvaesitso can also connect to Breezy if you want weather data on your Android home screen.
Speaking of Gadgetbridge, that can also connect to OpenTracks, allowing it to use data (like heart rate) from your smartwatch to record it for hiking or other exercise tracking.

I vouch for Breezy. Been using it for years. It’s very easy to use and clear and I think more accurate than a lot of my friends phones. Though that depends on your weather source.
