Grift aside. I’ve been honing my general linux/programming workflows with Ollama + opencode, and I’ve even used those improvements to enhance my emacs workflow. I’m interested in what else is out there. Cutting through the advertising bullshit, what kinds of features do new “AI enabled” consumer electronics provide? Anything of note?

It usually means that the laptop has a neural processing unit, which is a low-precision matrix multiplier useful for running neural networks.
When advertised by a laptop manufacturer, it usually means whatever Microsoft is currently shipping with Windows, which may run locally using the NPU, or may rely on Microsoft’s cloud services. Their brochure page lists “real-time translation, image generation, and intelligent search” as things it can do locally.
Offline Voice typing/Speech to text is cool.
Offline translation in Firefox is a killer feature for me given that I’m considering moving to another country. It’s so much easier when you can read everything local with the touch of a button.
