I ended up on the wait list from the lottery, but I received an email at 2am this morning that I’m now in the reservation queue. My Steam account also says the same. There may be hope for waitlisters after all!

    Got mine.

… currently reinstalling linux on my gaming rig because it won’t stream to the frame. Looking forwards to getting my graphics drivers working again and screwing around with sketchy scripts to get the wireless adapter working.

I’m actually happy to be on the waitlist for now, I have too many things I need to get by the end of the year so I’m happy I don’t have to do additional budget shenanigans heh

My friend will be so pissed at me if I end up getting the Frame sooner rather than later. He’s been on the waitlist for the Steam controller since day 1.

I received my Frame yesterday (much to my surprise as I never got the shipping notification). All in all I am delighted. I’ve had so much fun playing 2d games on a gargantuan screen (this old man’s eyes ain’t what they used to be) that I find it worth every penny.

I even tested what I thought to be my stretch goal with this device which was streaming directly from my SteamDeck to again, give me a big ass display and it works wonderfully.

I bought a Quest3 some time ago and have hardly used it because 1. I had to create a throwaway Meta account and do a bunch of network fuckery to even feel safe using the damned thing, and 2. There just wasn’t much to do with it other than watching movies (which was admittedly quite nice). But this is a whole different ballgame. I feel like an enormous chunk of my Steam backlog just opened up to those moments of laziness when I’m just vegetating on the couch.

I also love the idea of a hackable Linux computer I strap to my face, I foresee lots of fun tinkering in my future with this doodad.

Highly recommended by one random old fart on the internet.

Same here! I’m wondering if I just placed that much better than I did for the Gabe Cube, or if there are fewer people interested overall, or what.

I personally know 4 people that signed up for the frame and all got waitlisted. I’m guessing the initial response was pretty high

Probably fewer people. I was kind of interested, but Steam Machine was my big purchase for the year and I couldn’t justify both.

I didn’t get on the reservation list for the Gabe Cube, so I figured might as well try on the Frame, and looks like I might just get one! Both would’ve been a stretch for sure, probably more than is a good idea

Still waitlisted here but glad it’s moving, hopefully not too much longer. I was in reservation queue for Steam Machine for almost a month, hopefully they’re moving through Frame queue faster. Luckily Frame is the Steam Hardware I’m least excited about (though still quite excited) so if I have to wait for anything I’m glad Frame is it. I already got the passthrough camera because I figured I’ll get the Frame eventually.

One of my friends got one pretty early and used it in a voice chat with us. After about 5 minutes the microphone in discord broke and sounded like he was talking through a tin can telephone. Other than that, I think he enjoys it! He did mention that the battery life is only around 2 hours, which seems awfully low to me.

Good luck with your headset! I’m a little jealous of the foviated rendering…

If I stream I can get ~2 hours on it. ~1.5hrs if I’m playing native. It charges very quickly through.

If I ever get to the point where I want to play more than 2 hours in a row, which doesn’t happen with a family and responsibilities, it’d be pretty easy to get a decent battery pack in the back pocket/beltpack and keep going comfortably.

Plugging it in while steated is super comfortable and you can play continuously on it that way.

I think 2 hours is a best case scenario. If you run more intensive stuff on it, I hear it can go as low as 1 hour. A battery pack to keep in the back pocket or a hip bag is pretty much a must-have accessory.
