I see it on here too. Some people really feel strongly the opposite. Some people kind of just want to be dicks.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you talked to Big Tech workers about their ethical qualms? Do they question themselves, think they're doing the wrong thing?
42·6 months agoMost people who work for these companies aren’t evil laughing as they break the toes of kittens for their corporate over lords. As many others have said most people go in with the best intentions. Do their best to help companies achieve goals but ensure their products do what customers want. It’s the upper management that comes in and enforces less than desirable programs and enforces eshitification.
It’s a challenging balance and sometimes you just outright lose. People work for these companies for great benefits, connections, skills and the clout that comes from working for huge companies.
I’d argue it’s no different than most roles for most companies. Even look at YouTubers and social media influencers. Some are out there trying to have fun and entertain people with stuff they love. Others are doing anything and everything to make a quick buck even that involves tricking people into storming the capital on a complete lie. Allowing people to risk their livelihoods in the process
I worked for a companies who sole purpose was to allow Fortune 500 companies to pay less then a person who worked at McDonald’s in taxes. You do your best to improve yourself and the company hoping you don’t cross some moral line.
Start an OnlyFans ? Become one of those nonsense coding influencers on YouTube who never shut out about AI?
Idk , I like web development

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How can I wear a skirt at work if I'm not religious?
15·7 months agoThere is no technical reason a man can’t wear a skirt. The society you live in may “frown” upon it. But that’s a different issue to address entirely

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I see mostly the same content on Lemmy/PieFed as Reddit, but without the niche stuff. What’s the actual benefit?
6·7 months agoFor me it’s three key items:
- No corporation looking to maximize profits
- No ads and no being show items I don’t truly Care for
- no unnecessary data mining.
I’d say the people but over the last few weeks that’s changed. Ive seen a lot of unsavory comments. So that’s one thing that’s no better here.
Maybe just an issue with a Reddit like site ?
I’ll always push for Federated version of any platform. In the long haul it’s a better experience.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Feeling depressed and confused after hooking up - please help me out friends?
10·7 months agoMaybe I’m just naive but I personally no matter how little I know a person would “ghost” someone especially if there is some open thread.
I don’t know the full context of your social situation or how your friends work. But given what little I know I’d just take this a learning experience and move on. I doubt in the long haul it will look bad on you. If anything look poorly on the other person.
You seem like you care about relationships and people. Someone one better will certainly come along.
Regardless, best of luck with everything.

The right client there makes all the difference.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To people who look at commercial ads; why do you look at ads?
5·7 months agoI hate ads but I realize I don’t watch nearly as many movies as I use to cause I have no idea what anything is about. I use to from watching lots of trailers in tv ads.
Maybe I can start watching movie trailers on you tube ?
They want it to be but what you’re seeing is just a tame version that’s been around for a while on porn sites and mature rated games. What scares people what bothers me is required identification. Having to share real personal data to “confirm” who you are.
We should all be fighting this …
