Just wanted to comment this. The amount of lint can be quite shocking, but explains why e.g. t-shirts seem to get thinner over time…

Same experience here. The fiber usually is served from a point farther away from your house than with copper, and doesn’t need a powered repeater somewhere near your house. So if the neighborhood looses power, the last active fiber repeater before your connection might be far enough away to not be affected by the outage.

A story I read about a company (?) creating an AGI which for safety reasons is disconnected from the internet. It then creates business plans or something for them, and they give it more and more compute power, until it can generate fantastic movies and series for people to enjoy. They publish those stories which become instant successes. The AGI slowly uses these movies to make society a better one by influencing the viewers subconsciously. I don’t remember the ending, but it was quite a good story.
