Linux@programming.dev•Developer patches Wine to make Photoshop 2021 & 2025 run on Linux — Adobe Creative Cloud installers finally work thanks to HTML, JavaScript and XML fixes
2·15 days agoI wanted to share that i was able to get my CD copies of SimCity and SimCity 3000 running on Linux using Lutris to run the installer and configure wine. I can’t believe that Linux has become the way to run old 16/32 bit applications originally designed for Windows. Love it

I have bazzite, it also includes graphics drivers ready to go which is nice. If you’re going to use steam for gaming i find it great. But this distro is not needed for gaming, one can install and game on any of the popular distros. You’re friend needs to try a few and see what feel best for them.
I installed Khan kids for my child to use without needed a tablet.

2·2 months agoSorry to hear. I think there are some firmware downgrades around to flash to some of the pc drives to get ripping working, unless this is specific to this particular movie.

5·2 months agoYou might have a bad disk, do an exchange. I have had many bad uhd disks from new boxes over the years. I wish optical storage wasnt used for this kind of thing.
I haven’t used arch (yet) to form an opinion. I do however run bohi on a laptop. It’s been rock solid, but I offten scratch my head when I’m using it and end up questioning my life choices.
Check out the YT videos from Explaining Conputers for some more comparisons of distros for starting out.
I want to question life: bohi linux

2·3 months agoYeah, i have an example of this. I spent since time today building a local copy of handbrake have it run in a distrobox of arch to get AMD hardware acceleration as an option. The flatpak version refused to do this. It wasn’t too bad, but still wild i did this.

Linux@programming.dev•Have you or someone close to you converted to Linux recently (with Windows 10's end of support)?
1·3 months agoCool. It’s pretty slow on my machine. I almost tempted to pickup one of those mini pcs with windows 11 on them and just use it for that one thing… But it’s only a though and not a very good one… Lol

1·3 months agoHave you considered a Windows vm? That’s how i run that single program that i can’t get working on Linux. Yeah it’s slow AF on my system, but it’s not used often.
