I have bazzite, it also includes graphics drivers ready to go which is nice. If you’re going to use steam for gaming i find it great. But this distro is not needed for gaming, one can install and game on any of the popular distros. You’re friend needs to try a few and see what feel best for them.
I installed Khan kids for my child to use without needed a tablet.

Sorry to hear. I think there are some firmware downgrades around to flash to some of the pc drives to get ripping working, unless this is specific to this particular movie.

You might have a bad disk, do an exchange. I have had many bad uhd disks from new boxes over the years. I wish optical storage wasnt used for this kind of thing.
I haven’t used arch (yet) to form an opinion. I do however run bohi on a laptop. It’s been rock solid, but I offten scratch my head when I’m using it and end up questioning my life choices.
Check out the YT videos from Explaining Conputers for some more comparisons of distros for starting out.
I want to question life: bohi linux

Yeah, my neighbor’s believed in this a lot. My counter argument was always “How can you vote for hate?” Wasn’t anyone around for his first term?

Wow really? I have tried to use Turbo tax and QuickBooks a few times with wine and no success. Maybe time for a revisit.

Yeah, i have an example of this. I spent since time today building a local copy of handbrake have it run in a distrobox of arch to get AMD hardware acceleration as an option. The flatpak version refused to do this. It wasn’t too bad, but still wild i did this.

Maybe Tiny 11 was the answer?

Cool. It’s pretty slow on my machine. I almost tempted to pickup one of those mini pcs with windows 11 on them and just use it for that one thing… But it’s only a though and not a very good one… Lol

Have you considered a Windows vm? That’s how i run that single program that i can’t get working on Linux. Yeah it’s slow AF on my system, but it’s not used often.

Same, I’m not gaming, but this distro for me that I find just working. I used Aurora for a bit before making the switch.

Yep, maybe wispersync integration will happen soon and help out. A time killer yep. I jave tried downloading subtitles from the internet, but hit or miss on getting it to sync.

i have just revived a system from 2013 with linux, if i turn off secure boot does this matter?

you’ll also want mkvnix tool as well to edit the mkvs. you are going down the hole.

are you using subtitle edit to generate the subtitle (srt) files? that’s what i use, it’s not horrible… but work.
I rip music to play in the car for my kids. Mostly mix tracks they like.
