  • That all is good and lovely. My point is that this is a side benefit of having an awesome community and most people when given the choice will help someone rather than gatekeep.

The main purpose of the license is exactly the one that is forcing facebook to contribute back to the kernel, because they want the enourmous firepower of all other competitors work, and would like that their own is easy to keep with future upgrades, so they contribute not only because they are forced, but because tit is the most efficient way for them to get what modifications they need integrated properly. 40 years of this gave us the current kernel.

So if ai tools help this process they will be used, regardless of how they work morally. Because most contributors to the code are developers payed by corporations.

  • Someone once told me that it is wery easy for you to remember these instances and think at how you made a fool for yourself or how you were wrong or maybe even bad towards someone. These things are still vivid after 10-20 years.

However remembering how others were towards you fades a lot easier, to the point that remembering such instances from others against you from 5 years ago is difficult.

It sometimes helps me thinking that others likely moved on and probably do not even remember the episode, so I should let it go.

  • This is what we get when a new user comes to the linux community saying they are new to linux, need to choose a distro, mostly care about security and don’t trust their parents network.

Some idiot says they should use qubes, and they do it…

OP stop the madness, install debian or mint, use it a few monts and reinstall something else afterward. You will learn and all this will make sense, but you need to first sweat it like everybody else.

  • Debian is unable to manage modern dependency trees because they chose not to. It is fucking embrarassing what happens with any “normal and modern” thing in cargo, npm or other cursed repository pulling in 2000 dependencies you have absolutely no hope in being able to vet for malware or stupid bugs. This comes on top of a culture of API instability between one minor version and another.

Debian has their packages and those are tested and inspected in depth, regressions are tested. There are people running debian for a job and we don’t want that kind of nonsense.
