TBF there are ways to completely disable updates in Windows (I just did in my VM because it should literally only run 3 programs which are not working with wine)

It’s definitely better than say a year ago, but it’s always a new small issue. Like suspend is not working, or shutting the monitor off crashes the graphics stack etc.
I really hope they get their shit together and build a solid wayland support at some (not too distant) time. But the amount of issues is small enough for me that I’ve switched to it.
Probably should’ve been “installing and using nvidia drivers”.

But it is…
I still have (or rather had) some screen-tearing somewhere. I very much have annihilated that issue with settings in X11 (though some application somewhere still has issues, be it the video player). And it just feels clunky non the less.
Although I’m currently not using Hyprland, it really feels nice to use, really flowy. I’m currently testing COSMIC (which is reasonably still in alpha, as I got issues with *** nvidia, like suspend sometimes hangs the computer).
That said, I think it’s still ok to wait until the whole ecosystem is well supported in wayland, and *** nvidia finally got their wayland shit together.

What's the best use of that money if my goal is to stop climate change?1·6 months agoI think that depends on your skill, i.e. good planning, and obviously execution. If you’re really good, you don’t even get caught, although that might help politically as we currently see with Mangione

What's the best use of that money if my goal is to stop climate change?1·6 months agoMore effective would probably to buy yourself (or a person that has political potential/influence with the right intentions) into politics like president muskrat, and do well placed populistic propaganda against the actually evil fossil industry. You don’t even have to lie, just do some good rethoric speech, ads etc… We need policies on a larger level, and I think 10B$ should be enough to gain significant political influence for something that the major mass of people is already behind of, just needs a good spark. I think Thunberg has shown that. Not that we shouldn’t of course improve public transport in cities. Additionally do (employ) investigative journalism probably in the same process to give all of this a good foundation…

To reach a catastrophic level on all kinds of scales - including climate change…
If you mean the net-worth, you might be right, that amount of money might even have a measurable effect on human-made climate change.
NixOS disagrees
I guess it depends on the user… I have more problems (if at all possible) configuring and maintaining a windows installation than linux. That’s why I ditched it completely, as thankfully the last thing that kept a windows installation on my PC is basically solved by Valve…

fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you secretly judge people for?1·9 months agoYeah mushrooms contain a good amount of umami (one of the ingredients of meat that makes it “tasty”). For me it took quite some time (maybe 2-4 years) until my gut adjusted to the taste of a (mostly) vegan diet. But then there’s just a lot more diversity and interesting taste otherwise. With a good amount of experimentation combining all kinds of different things to compose a unique taste. With meat it’s often just the main taste-defining/dominating ingredient (so kinda boring?). I avoid the highly processed “meat”-replacements though, maybe that helped a bit to get my taste away of meat.
fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you secretly judge people for?83·9 months agoAnd from the downvotes I conclude that this will remain a mostly secret judge. It’s sad, that you don’t see it yet, this will very likely be the future whether you like it or not (when we don’t fuck it up completely, but I’m somewhat hopeful).
The argument that meat is cheaper is also not really true anymore. There’s basically no reason to eat meat anymore. Matter of fact, I developed a distaste to meat when I mostly stopped with eating meat, after eating way too much before (tastes kind of rotten compared to plant-based), try it out, it’s easier than you think, and gets easier over time.
fuck_u_spez_in_particular@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you secretly judge people for?1315·9 months agoEating meat although they’re fully aware, that we have to shift completely away of that (GHG emissions, land-use), and then blame the government that they need to regulate this more.
Yes more government regulations would be great, but it’s one of the few individual things that have effect, if everyone would think similar. And a vegan or mostly vegan diet is not really worse in taste and likely more healthy as well… Eating meat is not sustainable (nor morally justifieable), it should be a thing of the past…
