If it could I’m sure a lot more people would be willing to call it GNU/Linux.

1·1 year agoI also remember idspispopd or something like that but not sure what it was for haha
Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to give that a try this weekend. I assumed it would require a full VM but never thought to try it in LXC, nice if it’s that simple and I now feel kind of silly for asking haha. And the reproducibility and ease of deployment is indeed a big plus of Docker compared to LXC. It would be nice if Proxmox could add native integration for Docker at some point.
Thanks for the tip, for some reason I assumed I couldn’t run docker in LXC but never actually tried… I prefer to avoid the overhead of a full VM and I find LXCs way easier to manage from the host system. Guess I’ll have something to test this weekend. Cheers!
Do you run Docker in a VM or on the host node? I’m running a lot of LXC at home on Proxmox but sometimes it’d be nice to run Docker stuff easily as well.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What video game are you waiting to see a new sequel for?
6·1 year agoHorizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West sequel. Love the entire series and while christmas this year came early with both a Zero Dawn Remaster and a LEGO Horizon Adventures release (and I’m also really into LEGO so yay!) I can’t wait to see how the story continues after the developments in part two.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you do any simple experiments? Or track things and analyse them?
3·1 year agoFor the average household I think tracking your energy and gas consumption is most useful as it allows you to spot accidental wasteful usage and both save money and the environment :)

4·1 year agoA fun experiment I did recently was to measure the speed of sound with my oscilloscope. I wired up a speaker and a microphone at a known distance from each other, connected the oscilloscope to both sides and measured how long it took between sound trigger & reception. I came within several meters/second accuracy which I think is a nice result for a basic home lab setup.
I also track a lot of metrics around the house using Home Assistant. Temperature, humidity, power usage, light levels, heating, but also stuff like total meters of filament used, total objects printed, system metrics. I like statistics and it’s fun to compare months/years and clearly see the results of improved isolation for example.
Congrats on the almost-3-years! Been there and it’s good to keep celebrating the achievements imho :) I have a mini celebration each year to reflect on all that’s happened since I stopped doing drugs and it’s only for the better, even though the craving never fully goes away for me.

SystemD also contains things like a network manager, dns resolving, ntp time sync and more, which I agree should not be so tightly coupled to the core init system.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are your favourite Dragon Ball characters
1·2 years agoAgreed! He even has the best line of the entire saga.
“Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?? … IT’S OVER 9000!!!”
Exactly, it’s why I don’t buy Logitech anymore!

Interesting, also ADHD but for me it’s the opposite. I can get in a deep state of hyperfocus doing computer stuff and I mostly forget the world around me exists. Which of course is not ideal either lol.
