Sounds like an excellent idea! If you ever get tired of swapping, an USB capture card is a lot cheaper than a new GPU with current prices. Good luck!

That’s tight fit. If you really need the two capture cards then that’s the room you’ve got to work with. If you can bring it down to just one card at the top that would be a lot better. I personally use a capture card that’s connected using USB3, which works very well and doesn’t require room inside the computer (even though I would have room).

Most videocards have two or three fans on the bottom these days, with such a tight fit one of the fans can easily collide with the capture card. And even when it doesn’t it will have a hard time sucking in air from there. You can try and find a blower type card, but that would be a bit harder to find.

And you wouldn’t happen to have a GPU inside the CPU? Because the iGPUs from AMD are very solid if you don’t need much in terms of performance (easily faster than the 1030 you mentioned). Otherwise two capture cards and a GPU is a big ask in such a small case.

The A series is pretty limited, I would go for a B series if you can find it. But keep in mind drivers for Intel on Windows are terrible and on Linux even worse. So that would not be a good time.

There’s plenty of cards that would fit in 40mm, but your airflow would be pretty bad. Do you have a pic of the inside of your system? There has to be a way to make something more fit.

But most 6600, 7600 and 9060 cards should be able to fit in 40mm. And with AMD the drivers on Linux are very good.

Look for second hand stuff and something like a 6000 series from AMD. Don’t buy cheap videocards new, they always suck.

Oof, that’s a terrible card. The GP108 chip is a rebatched mobile card Geforce MX 150, it’s a pretty ancient chip at this point. There are no drivers for it, so you’ll need to use older drivers or limited open source drivers. Unless you got it very very cheap that’s not going to work very well for you. It’s newer than a GT 220, but not by much.

I think the one I have is 41mm, so that would be a tight fit. Can’t you rearrange the cards a bit to make some room? With only 40mm that would be hard to fit in any modern card.

Yeah I have a RX 7600. It wasn’t brand new, but lightly used, bought it off a friend who upgraded. Paid around $200 for it, so I think a pretty good deal with current pricing.

Yeah get a simple but recent AMD card, older cards, especially nVidia are a nightmare. I had an old 980 TI which was a really good card still, but I couldn’t use it anymore because everything kept breaking. So I got me a recent AMD card and it has been running perfectly.

It is very revealing how the people rebelling against Flock isn’t seen as the people opposing mass surveillance and data being made available to all the cops without cause, due process, oversight, restrictions or consequences for abuse, but instead as the people being against Flock specifically and the same system with a different label would be peachy.

Good news: The feature you want has been a part of KDE since forever. Cursors are fully customizable with different cursor packs being available. Installing a cursor pack is very simple, just look through the different packs, select the one you want and click install. There’s so many different kinds available, one is probably to your liking. And if it isn’t you can probably find an artist easily enough and commission your own set.

Last time I had it not boot after an update has been years ago, it just works these days.

They are now finding out step 2 is getting absolutely destroyed by AI not sending people along to their platform. And the profit in step 3 is for the AI companies, not for them.

These CEOs are so shortsighted it’s beyond belief. Sure Google paid hundreds of millions for the data, but in turn it’s a death sentence for the platform. But hey it was money in the short term right?

Thanks, I usually know what it is tho. Most often it’s VMs I was using for testing stuff, which I forgot to shutdown. It takes a while for them to cleanly shutdown, which is what the wait is for. I have a shortcut on my desktop to a script that checks for any running VMs still and shuts them down. But I forget to click it sometimes and then I have to wait. No big deal, except I like to switch off the power bar that powers the computer and everything attached to it. An old habit from when such a thing mattered, these days standby power is probably nothing to worry about. But still I wait patiently for the computer to shut down till I switch off the power strip.

Well you say that, but I’ve seen the countdown go past and then reset to a higher number often.

Did you read the last commit on the source? It would have told you exactly what you needed to know instead of wasting all of our time. It’s called common courtesy…

It’s just too powerful to be allowed to exist

I was anti GUI for years. Having learnt to program on a tiny green and black 40x24 CRT on my old MSX back in the 80s. I remember being made fun of by fellow students and co workers alike for doing almost everything in the terminal. This included huge projects with complex file trees and lots of files.

But as time went on, I started to appreciate the GUI more and more. And these days I’m all for using a GUI for a lot of things.

Especially in IDEs that can do a lot of things with short keyboard shortcuts. I now have multiple monitors, including a large 32" primary. I always have stacks upon stacks of windows open and manage them efficiently. There’s always at least a couple of terminals hanging out and of course most IDEs also have terminal windows baked in. But all of the extra visual tools help me out a lot.

Yes I have the same on my laptop from work. It’s a Lenovo with integrated AMD, but also dedicated Nvidia for certain engineering applications that don’t play nice with integrated AMD.

Work doesn’t allow me to install Linux on the thing and some of the applications we use for work don’t run under Linux anyways. But I investigated if it would be possible, so I could decide to go pester IT asking if I could. I researched and found the same answer everywhere, it’s a pain in the ass and nothing but trouble. The main workaround is to completely disable the Nvidia chip, which obviously means not having access to that performance if required.

Would be really nice if this somewhat common use case could just work out of the box.
