Last time I looked at post market OS it was absolutely not ready to replace a primary phone, WiFi crashing constantly , calling/text not working and unable to use any “App Store”.

Is it anywhere near usable as a main phone with any device yet?

Almost completely working on Fair Phone 6: “Just the camera and laser rangefinder, then the fp6 is officially 100% hardware complete”.

Based on TheMightCat’s progress over the last few months, my guess is those last couple features will be finished within the month.

Wow really? That would be a huge step up. I’ll have another look in that case. I tried it on a pixel before and it did not go well…

What is the App situation now? Are there functional Mail, Browser, Lemmy, YouTube Apps?

Functionality is very hardware dependent. I have no idea how up-to-date that wiki is, so be aware functionality for any given hardware may be better than it shows (ex. Fairphone 6).

TheMightyCat is apparently the first to solve the call issue for Linux phones, so I expect that solution to at least partially diffuse to other hardware and other Linux mobile operating systems in a relatively short time (months->year).

I am not very knowledgeable in this, but my understanding is that since postmarketOS is a mainline Linux kernel, it can utilize any Linux programs/apps. For android apps, Waydroid seems to be a working thing. I think @TheMightyCat@ani.social can probably answer the question better than me (assuming this is how you ping someone).

            I have been summoned.

If the question is about apps then yes postmarketos can run any linux executable compiled for arm. When you run it with a DE like plasma mobile you can run any normal wayland program like on desktop, but keep in mind the program must be display responsive otherwise it will be very hard to work with.

I don’t know about a lemmy app but yes there are mail, browsers and YouTube apps that also scale properly to the mobile form factor.

Personally I wouldn’t recommend waydroid unless you absolutely need it, for most things there is a native linux app.
