What are some habits that would be best avoided too?1·6 months agoTell me more about my “faults” and “condescension” and “ad hominem”, then reread your comments. Yep, there’s some condescension from me here, but you’re also once again trying to throw judgement. “Glass houses” and all.
You win, Have a nice day.
ArbiterXero@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a habit/thing/technique that most people would benefit from, in your experience/observation? What are some habits that would be best avoided too?3·6 months agoYou’re assuming it was backtracking rather than a simple clarification.
That’s unnecessarily unpleasant, and it’s cool you want to feel like you won the argument, but if you add in the context of “new years eve” and then read it as “some other event external to the reason you want to make a change” it’s not backtracking.
In fact it’s just context you missed because of your own life experiences and emotions.
Which is cool, but you look like an ass when you try and secure a win by pointing out your own misunderstanding rather than hearing my clarification.
ArbiterXero@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a habit/thing/technique that most people would benefit from, in your experience/observation? What are some habits that would be best avoided too?2·6 months agoNeither of those are New Year’s resolutions.
“The day my niece was born” is actually exactly the type of thing I’m talking about. You didn’t wait until new years, or your birthday, or something else unrelated to your motivations. You picked “now” because that was when you felt the desire.
So yes, special days can matter, but the days that matter to YOU are way more important than a day some guy named “Gregorian” chose 2000 years ago.
ArbiterXero@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a habit/thing/technique that most people would benefit from, in your experience/observation? What are some habits that would be best avoided too?101·6 months agoNot waiting for a day like new years to make a change that helps you.
The best time to do it was probably years ago.
The second best time is today.
Because if you make it about “new years” or some event, then it isn’t about YOU.
Do it for YOU, because you know that you’re worth the same amount of effort and affection as the others in your life.
Would you want this change for your friend? Turn don’t you think you skills care enough about you to give it to yourself?
ArbiterXero@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•Intel Arc B580 tested in five games on Linux; you’re better off sticking with an AMD GPU for now10·6 months ago……… what are you talking about?
The new modules can absolutely be updated independently of the kernel.
The modules need to be built against your version of the kernel, but MANY versions of the modules work (and are compiled against) different kernel versions.
Just look at nvidia, a nearly duplicate version of this exact problem. They have MANY versions you can install at any given time for their cards.
ArbiterXero@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•Intel Arc B580 tested in five games on Linux; you’re better off sticking with an AMD GPU for now14·6 months agoYes and those kernel modules that get loaded in to control hardware interfaces are often referred to as drivers.

Intel did a great job with the drivers in windows last time, time will tell if they fix up the Linux ones

I wonder which company motivated only by greed and the fact that their entire business model is “obliterating your privacy” is behind them
It’s because they appear to be something they’re not.
They’re usually friendly and fun and do all sorts of employee retention activities like arranging go karting and such…
They seem like they’re there almost as union stewards, to try and help retain employees and ensure you’re treated well by management. This is not the case. They’re there to protect the company from lawsuits originated by you. This means that they’ll apply rules and such in ways that are not usually beneficial to you.
They’re actually really helpful if you have issues with a coworker! However, you need to remember that despite how friendly they seem, they’re not actually in your corner, they have their own agenda.
So the simple answer is that they aren’t bad at all, but it can feel bad if you thought they were your friend.
