Yup. I had an infestation thar took months to get rid of. Turns out they were in an old bag of dried peppers.

It’s right there in the word. deci 1/10 mate from matus to remove. It’s like expecting half price to mean 1/3 price. We use deci all the time to mean 1/10 Decileter, decimal, etc.
Common misuse of words. Decimate means reduce by 1/10 not almost completely destroy. Exponential growth. The variable has to be in the exponent if it’s a constant exponent that is polynomial growth. Gaslighting isn’t just lying. It’s making someone belive that they can’t trust their own memories or experiences so they believe you despite evidence to the contrary.
That’s probably the best way to read it.
Naked Lunch. It’s a dark strange read but it suck with me.
The book is better but the movie was pretty good.
I found my next read. Copy ordered.
I read Mother Load by Zach Huges decades ago. Not as strange as the one you describe but I still remember it.
I’m pretty sure that was the intent.
I grew up near an area where a large number high net worth people. For example as a kid I thought Lamborghini was a common car because I saw them all the time.
In my experience lots of money brings out your true self and let’s you act the way you want. So if you are inclined to be self centered and an asshole you can be a massive asshole. You can also be generous and kind.
Most rich people are pretty normal. However the normal ones do try to not make it known that they are rich. So you often don’t notice the normal rich people.
It’s also hard to tell the difference between a person who lives on a 200k a year income and a person with a double digit millions net worth.
I had a friend as a teen. I invited him to go diving with me as he had never been. He showed up with a 20k wetsuite.
Pretty specific use case. A normal OS handleds time slicing and core assignment for processes and uses it’s judgement for that. So at any time your process can be suspended and you don’t know when you get your next time slice.
Same with when you make wait calls. You might say wait 100ms but it may be much longer before your process gets to run again.
In a real time OS if you have real time priority the OS will suspend anything else including it self to give you the time you request. It also won’t suspend you no matter how long you use the core.
So if you need to control a process with extreme precision like a chemical manufacturing process, medical device, or flying a rocket where being 10ms late means failure they are required.
However with great power comes great responsibility. You need to make sure your code calls sleep frequently enough that other tasks have time to run. Including things like file io or the gui.
Cool. I remember having to use Red Hawk Linux years ago. It’s a real time variant of Red Hat. It was such a pain to get the dependencies workin on it.
Or toss a flash bang in the crib.
Mega Traveller 2. Buggy janky story. Bad combat. Character creation that includes all the skills from the pen and paper game but only about 10% of them actually do anything in game.

Honestly Red Hat only has a big grip on the mid to small size business side.
Steam play. I spent nine years with linux as my main work os. Then I’d come home and game on windows. Once Steam play was mature I setup a dual boot to give it shot. I think I booted into windows twice after that.
It was something around 40 TB X2 . We were doing a terrain analysis of the entire Earth. Every morning for 25 days I would install two fresh drives in the cluster doing the data crunching and migrate the filled drives to our file server rack.
The drives were about 80% full and our primary server was mirrored to two other 50 drive servers. At the end of the month the two servers were then shipped to customer locations.
We tried that in the US. It went very poorly.
It’s old but Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy is great.
Fortitude Session 1 is great. Season 1 is also self contained and the mystery is solved. Season 2 was a new mystery and kind of meh.
In the US you probably get 2 weeks of flexible PTO and about 5 days where everybody gets a day off. Even that is not guaranteed US law doesn’t require any PTO.
Honestly it’s better but still a mess of design choices. For open source graphics editor check out Krita.
