NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was a fact taught to you in school that has been proven false during your lifetime?71·1 month agoI learned that it’s not ok to be intelligent but completely incapable of remembering to do things or remembering the things that the teachers thought it was important for me to remember.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Technology@beehaw.org•X’s dominance ‘over’ as Bluesky becomes new hub for research5·1 month agoI went on Twitter to download my data pre-deletion (still nothing) and Billy Bragg was on there. What the hell?! That’s practically on a par with guesting on Joe Rogan by now.

40 hours is pretty long TBF! I’d probably just zone out for the last hour of each day.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you're sitting at a light and a cop is behind you and you burn rubber when you take off, but you don't break any other laws is that breaking a law?4·2 months agoThey’re talking about cops in Cambodia, obviously.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you have a drink at lunch and then go back to work?2·2 months agoI work in software/IT and going for a pint on Friday lunch is pretty common.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Terrance Howard, the actor in the first Iron Man, said that the periodic table is wrong. It shouldn’t be a grid, but circles as elements are organized in octaves and hertz.1·2 months agoShame he wasn’t in Iron Man 2 to help them invent a new element.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you have a drink at lunch and then go back to work?4·2 months agoIn the UK people will definitely have a pint on a Friday lunchtime. Sometimes two in my experience. I haven’t seen it as much in Oz but it’s definitely a thing here.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do most people stay in centralized social media platforms when the Fediverse exists?1·2 months agoOlives and peppers are also fine. It’s just pineapple that’s as bad as putting a picture of the Pope in your toilet.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do most people stay in centralized social media platforms when the Fediverse exists?10·2 months agoNetwork effect. Next question.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why is my entire feed in this Lemmy server nothing but American politics and Reddit bashing121·2 months agoI was kind of hoping for more Western African culture, news and discussion from this Mali-based server.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why don't Americans plant trees and bushes of stuff that they can eat in their houses instead of having useless grass?2·2 months agoPeople are afraid of everything now. If you let your kids make their own way to school instead of driving them they may be kidnapped and murdered by the nonces hidden around every corner in your city, but also they may grow up to be independent self-reliant people.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Home owners of Lemmy do you have any advice on dealing with the stress of owning a home?25·2 months agoI remember going from being super excited that I owned the walls and fixtures around me to then realising I owned the walls and fixtures and no-one else was going to fix them. Not everything needs doing now though, so separate the issues into things you can live with, mid-term renovations and now things.
Oh, and always remember you’re not paying off someone else’s mortgage anymore!
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What, if any, cybernetic augmentation would you want for regular life?7·2 months agoMechanical “eyes” that correct my vision.
