  • I was just looking into this. I’ll parrot the other commenter and say the Samsung Galaxy line of a few years ago are solid gets and you can reliably get one for around that price point. I’ll add on Nothing phone’s previous models, too. Get em both from a reseller, not the brand store. Pixel devices have privacy focused 3rd party OS’s that are supposedly easy to use, but I haven’t looked into it.

Fully Linux phones are not quite there yet for the general marker or the price point you want.

If you’re outside the US or in the US and on Tmobile, you can look into Xiaomi or other Chinese devices, just double check that the radio bands actually work with your carrier. Service is better around cities, from what I saw when looking into an Oppo folding device then deciding to keep my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. I’m not sure how they work with hotspotting.

Double check the models as some have SD card slots, some do not, if that matters to you.

  • Death Stranding 2 has been a delight to play on the Deck, especially after the performance upgrade patches, though I miss the sounds the PlayStation controllers make when playing it on the PC.

Slay the Spire 2, especially the multi-player, has become a nigh daily ritual for me and my partner to play in bed a bit before sleeping and it runs just perfectly on the Steam Deck.

Ale Abbey is an old tycoon style game about running a monastery that makes all different sorts of beer, with a fairly robust and fascinatingly complex mixture of brewing and economic minigames. And while it’s obviously meant to be played on the desktop, it works very well on the Steam Deck.

  • Whoever correctly observes that I am the sole member of the human species that can correctly prepare this damned beast into something decadent and delicious gets their first choice of cuts after my wonderful partner gets a leggie (it’s his favorite).

I’m even so generous and benevolent that I’ll save you the keystrokes of asking how such a feat is possibly accomplished.

Homemade yolk-only herbed mayonnaise under the skin, spatchcocked and roasted high (like 425°-450°) on a raised rack until the thickest part of the thigh reads 150°, tenting the skin with foil if it looks like it’s browning too much. It’ll come to 165° as it rests, don’t you worry.
