You have to realize maybe a small handful of people that own these devices will do any of that. They’ll just plug in and go. Sure they may know how to side load, but they aren’t taking any other preventative measures as you suggest, nor do they have the know-how to do so.

I’d imagine Amazon initiated these via firmware updates that just about anyone would blindly install. The updates probably included scripts to uninstall any “unauthorized” APKs, disable developer options, restore factory system settings, lock the user profile from modifying the system, etc.

If honestly be curious how that would work out. CA tends to know the value of immigration, and i couldn’t really see them holding a policy of closed borders, at least not in the long run.

They probably have a really good tax guy, especially if they’re making that much. Average is typically 15-30%, and it usually depends on how you go about your taxes. Depending on deductions, especially if you own a business, and the more you can pay a (high level) tax guy, the less you pay in taxes. It really do be like that.

Personal income, and even business income, absolutely agreed (my personal for the year was $10k or just shy of 10%, my corp tax was about $900, not bad at all). It’s the other nickel and dimeing CA is famous for. Fuel taxes, property taxes because home values are now sky high, DMV fees, and then all your municipal taxes, and then all your varied county/municipal sales taxes, and plenty of others I’m not thinking of right now, and of which added together are exorbitant compared to other states. Now, don’t get me wrong, you certainly get what you pay for in terms of great weather and good quality of life compared to other states, as well as many other benefits, but let’s not pretend for a second that California isn’t a fucking expensive place to live. I was born and raised here, I’ve lived elsewhere, and I am not leaving, but absolutely California is pricey.

Electrician here. One thing I will say, in times of inclement economic weather (like now), service plumber stay busy. People are likely not going to not fix a leak, blocked drain, or a heater/AC problem. People will run an extension cord if an outlet stops working or get creative if a light goes out. From what I’ve seen, many views plumbing as a more pertinent issue to resolve than electrical issues. But, as OP said, I’ll take electrical all day over dealing with poo.

Linemen for the power company will always stay busy regardless of the economy, and it pays stupid well. The guys in my town clear $200k with storm shifts.

That’s where I’m not sure. According to wikipedia, no. So then yeah, laserdisc would provide the best image for those releases at 425, but a PAL laserdisc would give 440, in contrast to VHSs NTSC resolution of 240. That said, the 90s release was itself a 20th anniversary remaster of the originals, though allegedly there exists a copy for long term preservation that was never released. But, I’d have sworn that the 20th remaster saw a limited release on DVD, but that would again be something to be found on eBay or from a collector if it exists.

Honestly your best bet is to find a DVD/VHS box set and rip them yourself. Everyone keeps the 1080 versions these days at a minimum, and i don’t know if those versions were ever release in HD, though here’s hoping some can come in with Cunningham’s law.

Eh since my laptop is primarily for work and running my business, I have two separate base partitions for just such an occasion that I’ll mirror across once I know nothing went stupid. I just can’t afford to be goofing around procrastinating work, and then bork my system when I need to do invoicing and the like.

Indeed, I think the entire idea that needs focus is distributing away from a handful of large corps, although I don’t see streaming going in that direction largely due to IP rights for content, not necessarily bandwidth and resources. Many streaming platforms as I understand already have their content distributed through CDNs that are geographically dispersed as to ease network load, though they retain control over that hardware. I’m proposing providing more options for your average joe website than on something controlled by the likes of Amazon and Microsoft.
