NixOS is the new Arch. I’m surprised nobody here has said they use it yet.

Me using KDE Plasma because I prefer to work with my computer rather than work on my computer:

It’s really a great distro, I’ve been using it fulltime on laptop and PC for over a year. Best one I’ve tried so far and for some reason it’s less buggy than EndeavourOS was for me. The only thing I don’t like about it is the name.

Linux@lemmy.ml•System76 Launches Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS With COSMIC Desktop
13·2 months agoKrohnkite? It unfortunately doesn’t have anywhere near the polish and ease of use as the PopOS implementation, for example its easy toggling between tiling and stacking. Nobody comes close to the way PopOS has done it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•System76 Launches Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS With COSMIC Desktop
521·2 months agoAwesome, congrats to the team. I don’t use it anymore but I’ll always have a soft spot for PopOS as being the distro that finally made me a Linux fulltimer. I really wish KDE would implement their tiling system.

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMs
4·3 months agoIf KDE had a toggleable tiling feature like PopOS it would be the perfect DE.
Admittedly I use an NVMe drive but I’ve never had this happen once in the years I’ve been using KDE. Dolphin is so much snappier than Windows Explorer on the same hardware that it’s almost funny.
But… Why? It’s just a mediocre and laggy copy of Dolphin.
Doom Emacs for those who have truly ascended.

Linux@lemmy.ml•System76’s COSMIC Desktop Hits Initial Setup Completion
2·5 months agoThat’s to float one particular app window, it doesn’t disable Krohnkite altogether. The magic of the PopOS tiling is that the toggle fully enables/disables it, effectively switching between a stacked and a tiling WM with the click of a button.

2·5 months agoI never found any way to set up a keybind - I had to deactivate and logout.
Edit: I checked again and there’s no hotkey anywhere. If you have a way to do this, I’m all ears.

3·5 months agoTried it - it works, but isn’t toggleable like the PopOS tiling which has a taskbar button and a hotkey.

Just to clarify, COSMIC is a DE, not a distro. PopOS is their distro.

I didn’t - I was just commenting on how its users are the new Arch users. It isn’t a compliment.
