0·1 year agoI have lived in an area where a water heater subscription might have made sense, the water had enough minerals in it to destroy water heaters in about 3 years (faucet filters in 6 ish). Shame they never existed there to burn money on the customers that their service makes sense for.

0·1 year agonot too far off the prices here in Alaska (it is more cost effective to run a Prius on gas as a generator than to pay for electricity, this is incredibly stupid)

52·1 year agoTesting is absolutely a problem, however almost no sighted person finds audio screen readers pleasant and the braille displays cost thousands of dollars. If there was an emulated braille display (as in had the USB or serial parts that functioned identically to a real unit, just lacking any actual tactile, expensive, necessary for it to be usable for the blind, braille) testing would probably be more common.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the smallest hill you would die on?
4·1 year agotouch screens can be justified IMO, IF the company let it function as a diagnostic computer but the auto industry seem terrified of actually making something resembling a competent configurable UI. Internet could be nice if the appliance just used SNMP or similar protocols that have been around for decades, but the companies seem to love that shitty malware they call an App.

4·1 year agoa non-diffused, bright, monocromatic red led would still be painful to look at in the dark, it’s just that blue LEDs tend to be brighter + our eyes are more sensitive to blueish green light at night + the damn companies don’t bother putting a diffuser in front of the diode.

2·1 year agoTo be fair against mastodon the “mastodonservers.net” (first result on DuckDuckGo when looking up “mastodon instance list”) does list an instance featuring primarily pornographic content first (as far as I can tell this is because it list by usercount in decending order), which could be off putting to some people.
The first Google result for the same query “instances.social” is a list, but in the non legacy non advanced view has almost completely non-functional filters.
Neither of these are “joinmastodon.org” which is probably the best website for someone trying to join mastodon, considering it appears to be ran by the developers.

honestly my biggest complaint with Wayland is the lack of programs being able to move their windows causing browsers to not be able to properly display certain web experiences.
