Which is great for the people who have the time to invest to know how to use a computer via the terminal, I used to be one of those people, now I have had various full time jobs that don’t use computers for nearly a decade since then though and I don’t want to do much with terminal anymore (it took me like 10 minutes to remember ‘top’) It’s hard to take a polished, user friendly OS seriously when I couldn’t access the NTFS windows backup partition on my laptop without using terminal, because they needed elevated permissions to see because they were, naturallly, created by another user. I legitimately couldn’t just open the file manager as root to copy and paste my files into the new root partition without thinking about it. Ridiculous hand holding clunkiness.

You’ve given me instructions that require terminal use, your argument is invalid. If it doesn’t either work out of the box or is immediately fixable without going into the terminal, then it’s not ready yet.
Honestly, not being able to run Dolphin as root made me feel like my PC wasn’t mine more than anything windows did up until recently.
Your computer is yours… As long as you’re comfortable doing it via terminal… Yay…

kerrigan778@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the actual amount of protein I need to function properly in life?5·4 months agoPeople get a significant amount of their protein intake from sources that aren’t usually considered “proteins”. Lentils (and mung beans if you don’t think of them as lentils), wheat, rice etc all have significant amounts of protein (especially lentils). Yogurt and cheese has lots of it too. Not sure what part of India you’re in or what sort of food you’re mostly eating but my guess is you’re getting more protein than you realize.

Because we recognize the value of the easy precision of metric when it’s needed but prefer imperial for our day to day lives.

ROC to PRC, Russian Empire to USSR, Italy multiple times, happens literally all the time in third world countries where regimes are toppled by first world backed forces to install a government more friendly to said first world country (pretty much exactly what happened in the US tbh)

If you only put distilled water in it it really doesn’t seem like an issue

kerrigan778@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•(Not sure if you guys can answer this) Guy at my sister’s school keeps meowing? Is this just teenage behavior?15·5 months agoThat seems pretty typical kinda unfortunate kid blunder years behaviour. If deep down they’re a good person they will hopefully figure out this isn’t a good way to get attention and look back and cringe, but there’s a risk this’ll lead to inceldom.
Most likely they are lonely and are blundering their way through trying to find a way to not be lonely
kerrigan778@lemmy.worldto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Sid Meier's Civilization VII is Steam Deck Verified with the Linux version ahead of release on February 112·6 months ago95% of my desire to play Civ (and there’s a lot of it) is to play super long single player games, ideally modded ones that extend it further, neither Civ V nor Civ VI were able to give a REALLY good experience for that. Civ V was too unstable and Civ VI was also a bit unstable and the AI was somehow even worse at playing in an interesting fashion in that context (ie. Trying to play through a world history with shifting borders and diplomacy)

kerrigan778@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I don't know what to do about work tomorrow31·7 months agoYou are being way too hard on yourself, go in, act like nothing really happened which is mostly true, if your boss does demand an explanation of what happened all you need to say is “sorry, I had a panic attack.” If any coworker asks about it any of the following answers are acceptable “sorry, I had a panic attack” if you want to embellish whether true or not you can add “I was going through some unrelated stuff at the time and it threw me off,” and if necessary “I don’t really feel comfortable talking about it” it’s fine to embellish a little bit because it is, and I really do mean this, none of their business anyways and if they’re worth your time they will respect your boundaries anyways. If anyone gives you an opportunity to laugh it off, take it, add in any of the prior responses if you want.
EDIT: Oh, and next time someone asks you how to spell something repeat calmly after me “oh, sorry don’t ask me, I get spelling anxiety” It’s totally fine. If it’s just general social test anxiety then you can expand the line to “oh, sorry, don’t ask me, I get bad anxiety under social pressure” Modify further as needed. Again, you’re totally fine.

Pretty sure most homemade consumer computers are installing Windows. 70/30 tops.
(Maybe up to 50/50 if you don’t count professionally built custom PCs)
I fixed this ages ago, I am pointing out that it’s unacceptable from a UX standpoint. And it was in the last year for the record, this definitely wasn’t just a fully solved issue years ago.
