I can be mad at both the exploitative structures and at the toolkits that enable, further and synthetize them. They don’t need to be mutually exclusive, and in general it’s not useful that they are.

I explicitly said this is about how A (or what people call “AI”, because it certainly has not existed for “around for 50 years now”) exist in this world how we have created it. Via theft, exploitation and destruction, and oriented to the fulfillment of the elites and the oppression of the worker class.

All that said, there are ways to use electricity without “exploitative resource extraction”, for example with a potato.

Use non-slopified alternatives. There are lists such as Open Slopware that document where to get alternatives.
Or just fork the last non-slopified version and work from there. For already-mature software, should not make that much difference in the short term for a distro that seeks out stable long-term behaviour (things would be vastly different if this was Arch).
There is no way (in this world that we have created) to use AI “responsibly”. No matter what you choose, you are building on the base of wage theft, human suffering, environmental destruction and empowerment of the oligarchies.

algorithms and processes are not copyrightable. Code is an expression of algorithms, and thus is copyrightable. If anything, that’s the stance that the entire movements of Free Software and Open Source are going with to function, so this sounds not a good idea even if it is a good ideal.

It has never been a “legal headache”, more of a bit of additional work for distro maintainers (to keep codecs separate from the rest of the distro) and a tiny inconvenience for users (they had to click an additional button after installing the distro).
Was that ever? Whenever someone whined about codecs back in the day, I would just install mpv or vlc (which were and are in most official distro repos I know of) and call it a day.

Back in the time when I disliked it and, to a lesser extent, AppArmor, the reason was pretty simple:
It forces services to lie to me / It gets in the way of software doing what I tell it to do.
The examples would be rather simple. Need to spin up a second instance of a database server, sure, just set up the given config file with datadir=/mount/point/second/disk/var/lib/database. Should work… Nope. Database errors out despite the directory existing and being writable and all permissions being right. Insists it’s “file permissions”. Try to look around, to no end. Then it turns out there is some secret NSA Cabal infiltrated in my server already that… for some weird reason, forces databases to be installed on /var/lib even though when that is almost full and I mounted a second disk to have more room. And thus the service lies to me, says file permissions, well I checked them several times and they were alright.
Stupid NSA cabal thing stupidly getting in the way of configuring things and adding more entrypoints you have to edit and services you have to configure just to start up a program. I want to start a database, not set up a DEFCON 1 line! Those days I was beginning to miss SQLite already…
Similar issues I had with webservers, network share servers, joysticks and gamepads, and even audio devices. Never got a clear idea of what it was, software says something like “permission error” or “not a device file” but I checked and those are alright. A long sigh, remember than when you install a new computer you have to disable SELinux and AppArmor and reboot, boom, done, everything magically works.
Fortunately things have improved a long way since, but back in the day, they were one of the most grating obstacles to me for getting friends, let alone clients, to adopt Linux.
If I ever received a vuln report from an AI, or other such glorified spreadsheet, I would promptly dismiss it then wait for a human to organically discover it on its own to consider that as proof of actual existence.

The last time I tried Wayland was in 2023-ish. The fucking thing could not even finish the startup for a desktop session in my machine. It’s honestly the worst vaporware I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around since the '90s. I feel like these things will never ever be truly fixed, because from what I understand of the Wayland model, it is intrinsically about treating the user as an enemy:

Which is, ultimately, worrying. Things like Pulseaudio, systemd, Wayland, …, feel like they are making Linux less for the user and more for corporations. It’s enshittification, and comes from a culture of enshittification (Potter-ing etc).
Not necessarily. No one says you can’t just use the latest commit to the Linux kernel (or any other software) before it became slopified.
