I see the issue as being that the majority of the workforce can’t find a job like the one you describe. Someone has to work in restaurants, someone has to be the helper, the janitor, the maid, etc. and the jobs, especially in IT at this point, that you describe are few, far between, and take years of training as well as connections and ALOT of luck to get into.

I appreciate this sentiment, but it’s an increasingly unrealistic goal for the majority of people in the west but especially in the US nowadays.

I’m glad someone brought the impact of the collapse of the USSR on the conditions of workers in the capitalist countries into this thread!

I was about to mention unions. If everyone feels the same way as OP and are looking for a solution, they should unite and form unions, as they have more power collectively than in an atomized state, and unions are really the only way to make any real gains for everyone.

Unions and the broader labor movement of the late 1800s to the mid 1900s is the only reason that we have the weekend, 40 hour work week, integrated jobs, minimum wage, social security, overtime, and all the other perks which we all take for granted.
