Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something that's crazier than the wildest dreams of any ~1970s nerd, but exists today? I'll start with an easy one:English
11·27 days agoIt’s not for the hand.
IMO it’s one of those bell curve meme things, with ‘everything is a file’ on both ends. I’ve come back around to it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you rather be an idiot on a team of intelligent people or the intelligent person on a team of idiots?English
15·3 months agoSo long as the intelligent people are also kind. A group of intelligent people that are backbiting and cruel is the absolute worst.

Linux@programming.dev•Debian Testing as a daily driver - can anyone share their experience?English
2·3 months agoI switched to forky (current testing) the other day for the updated nvidia drivers (did not solve my issue) and it turns out that GNOME defaults to wayland. Took some time to figure that out.

Linux@programming.dev•After three months on Linux, I don’t miss Windows at allEnglish
2·6 months agoOh, nice. I ran simplescan and it just worked. I’ve never actually tried to scan anything with my MFP Brother.
Now you can have any colour you want, but they have mandatory LEDs embedded in every peripheral a d they no longer sell opaque cases.
That’s exactly why I run Linux. If you want something that just keeps running the basically the same way for like 20 years, that’s your option.

1·8 months agoYeah, I tested it on some large TIFF datasets I have around. 3x less memory and 4x faster.

Linux@programming.dev•(solved) What is the best tool to mass resize all images in a directory, including sub-directories, while keeping aspect ratio?English
2·8 months agoWell, this is exactly what I needed for work… we process like 200MB tiffs and imagemagick speed and mem use is an issue
That was a plot point in Cryptonomicon. And yeah the XFree86 docs mentioned it too…
I like
ls -lart
I’m on Debian testing and the more recent kernel updates haven’t been supported by the nvidia drivers. Somewhat annoying but not difficult, just stuck on 6.x until they sort that out.
