I suppose if corporate status is inherited that may be correct. in my opinion, its a bit too far removed to be corporate. Asahi linux is a purely volunteer distro, and ubuntu mobile was discontinued years ago, and is also purely volunteers-run nowadays.

There are some weird picks here. Is replicant even maintained anymore? UBports and Asahi Linux in Corpo-ish? And what do you have against LineageOS?

I never tried pirating native linux programs, but windows stuff worked well for me. Use some sort of wine prefix manager for this, like bottles. I used PlayOnLinux, but its an old buggy mess and there are modern alternatives nowadays. There is also umu-launcher and stuff that uses umu, which is more for games, but also works well for programs.

The most trouble I had was with installers and setup tools that need certain files to be in certain locations. There is a mod manager for Dawn of War 2 thats an exe that needs files from an installed game, and it was very bad on linux, with missing fonts and crashes. I got it to work with some fiddling however. On WineDB and ProtonDB there is guaranteed at least one person who had any given problem and has an arcane solution, or at least a bug report with lots of information, so try there if you are stuck. Thankfully there are other projects around keeping x11 alive:

theres xwayland-satellite, which implements more of x11 in wayland so you can basically run an x11 session with wayland support.

And than there is phoenix, which is a new implementation of x11. Supposedly it shall have none of the legacy garbage code that makes x11 so hard to maintain.

Yeah it was inactive for a while, but was forked, and that ones last commit was 4 months ago, and is now the canonical git repo. Thats the one I linked. Then just a little while ago it was forked again with those vibecoded changes. I presume they are going to reimplement it properly, there is an open issue where they are trying to clean up the fork for merging.

Theres nothing special about Arch that makes this easier, just the vague feeling of superiority that comes with having made it on a distro that prides itself on not being user friendly(and the fact that obscure packages are usually in the AUR).

I had a pretty radical wayfire + sawfish + crystal dock setup on opensuse tumbleweed for a while. Opensuse has OBS, which is basically like AUR but more user friendly and with a bit more security. But I didnt need it, since they had everything I wanted in the main repo.

This should not be a problem on linux. The old controller has a basic linux driver included in the upstream kernel, and there is a userspace driver too called sc-controller which I have used.

I would also like to know, I heard from somewhere that power profiles deamon is the modern solution and the other 2 are older, but all 3 are still supported so I think its personal preference. Tlp has more finegrained contol, and ppd has better defaults and “just works” for me, no idea about autocpu-freq.

moonlight/sunshine is really good, i heavily recommend it! You can also use it as a teamviewer alternative, but at the moment it requires some light fiddling to open ports etc. so its not really easy enough for “grandma downloads sunshine to get tech support from you” yet.

You can also use kdeconnect for filesharing in your home network, an it has a whole bunch of other features like mouse control emulation and remote multimedia control and such.

Chiming in to say that witchfire is a great game and I think a rather unique singleplayer extraction shooter with bloodborne style dodging and you should play it (on the steam deck)

In that reddit thread, they dont seem all too happy about that converter either, lots of people mention that it doesnt work correctly for them, so maybe your exact setup just isnt compatible with it?

Its not a backdoor, because secure boot was never about safety to begin with. Its just a piece of security theater, whose primary use is more control for microsoft. “Secure” boot only boots software signed with a microsoft key, thats the “security”. Microsoft also allows linux distributions to be signed, but nothing is technically stopping them from just refusing, for " security reasons", and on some systems secure boot cant be turned off. So it being bustable is a good thing. There are other ways to protect devices from physical access, but generally, if attackers have physical access to your computer, then its compromised, secure boot or not. Framework just didnt want to play along.
