  • That’s definitely my biggest complaint after switching to KDE earlier this year. Overall, I love it. I’d recommend it for new users because it’s easy to understand. But their design philosophy is all over the place when it comes to settings. There’s a mixture of hamburger icons, cog icons, and Settings menus in the toolbar. Plus the confusion of mixing settings related to the desktop environment right next to the application settings.

It’s not great with core apps, and then the community doesn’t have clear guidelines to go off of when making their own apps.

  • People give Windows a lot of flak for this, but at least it usually does turn off after finishing its updates.

MacOS is the one that will just literally ignore the fact that you told it to shut down. Or it takes forever to tell you that a program has unsaved changes. At least Windows will tell you that right away, so that you see the “something is preventing shutdown” message before you walk away from the computer. Your Mac will wait 15 minutes, and then be like, “by the way, the browser doesn’t want to close.”

I’ll always watch a presentation from a purple-haired cyberpunk over some bizbro with an array of asshole-shaped logos behind him.

(Actually, her presentation about using Qt in a car UI went way over my head, so I only watched a few minutes of it. But I’m watching exactly zero minutes of anything Nadella says nowadays.)
