exactly why i dont mind blocking ads.
not a business model i wouldnt mind not supporting and companies i wouldnt mind not depending on.
and it is used for nefarious political purposes that are undemocratic at best.
ublock origin has a few lists named “annoyances” or something that arent enabled by default.
enabling them gets rid of almost all of the popups and i cant live without it anymore.
this includes cookie nags and all the miscellaneous stuff they throw at you.
we pay with our data already
the internet is insufferable without it, and many people (including some IT people) seem to not even mind it. it blows my mind.
elementaryos is made for that sort of thing, its quite simple and friendly and you need to poke around it to get it to even be able to do more ‘advanced’ stuff. its among the most polished DEs ive seen design and user-experience wise.
and it is still linux so you can disable or otherwise restrict their user account from anything you don’t want them meddling with. like the settings app and stuff, try it out on a VM and you will get what i mean.
oh its based off of ubuntu lts so its solid
yall need dark mode extensions on yo browsers
i think id rather have the slightly worse option than to bother with accounts for every desktop app
i imagine thats why they are pushing for vendors to mainline all that soc driver code.
sadly we are still SOL when it comes to modem firmware. thats probably why stingrays can work so well.
and kernel-level anticheat. cant forget that one.
everything that isn’t a dockerized container won’t go into my server
this is why i switched from elementary. really good distro, but its based on ubuntu lts. think years instead of months. big oof.
i find that distros focusing on ease of use tend to not tolerate modding and prodding as well as the distros focusing on modularity and customizability.
i think its time to consider something like arch or gentoo when you are changing it around too much at the expense of some more maintaining.
also yeah fedora is really polished, i like it.
mine never really happened in real life. the rumination was pointless 9/10 times.
how?? i do that compulsively ever since i had it long and it got ripped off.
hey at least you know its not windows
aaaand thats why i like “newbie” distros like ubuntu mint fedora and such.
i want my computer to work without a hitch and without having to maintain the OS.
id imagine it doesnt work? i said its workable for non professionals because ive used it on wine for simple tasks, but my time working on photoshop was already over by the time i switched to linux.
alternatives exist now too
do you think i want to use facebook or linkedin or the likes?
i use them with an adblocker. best balance to me.
