There’s probably a lot of people on ‘stable’ distros who are still running Wayland code from a couple of years ago and hitting bugs that have been fixed already.

I feel like a lot of people tried Wayland in 2020, a bunch of things didn’t work and they’ve been permanently traumatised.
I switched my laptop years ago, but my desktop only fairly recently - multi screen, mixed DPI with variable refresh rates for gaming took longer to be ready than my laptop’s single screen, normal DPI, fixed refresh rate config.
If you deal with the fundamental problems of the protocol itself and also provide backwards compatibility… Congrats, you’ve just reinvented Wayland and XWayland.
Dealing with X11’s problems while still being X11, when X11 is the problem? Yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath either.
the ICQ age
There’s a blast from the past. Uh oh!

I wouldn’t say I was friends with Windows. It’s more like escaping an abusive relationship IMO.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Please help debug fitgirl repacks not decompressing with wine sys WoW64English
9·9 months agoWoW64 is a Windows subsystem for running 32-bit stuff on 64-bit Windows. You’re talking about Wine’s implementation of WoW64 - there’s the old one which needs 32-bit Linux libraries and the new one which doesn’t.
Also, if you want people to solve your issue instead of just guessing, we’re gonna need to see some logs.

Technology@beehaw.org•Nvidia’s RTX 5060 review debacle should be a wake-up call for gamers and reviewersEnglish
44·10 months agoagainst two weaker GPUs (the 3060 and 2060 Super) where the new card would be sure to win.
IIRC they also insisted multi-frame generation be used, which the 3060 and 2060 Super don’t support. That’s why the 4060 isn’t allowed, it does support MFG and it’d sink the plan to inflate 5060 benchmark results with fake frames.
The specific games using specific settings at 1080p bit is because in 2025 they have to carefully choose scenarios that won’t overflow the tiny VRAM of the cards and tank performance to below the level of the 3060 12GB.
Shout out to Hardware Unboxed for getting a 5060 review done at Computex with some amazing B-roll

24·10 months agoIt’s apparently the Pentium 1 and older, so those chips were discontinued in 1999. Almost 26 years old.
Ditching i686 could be a problem for people running 32-bit stuff on modern hardware, though. I expect that’ll hang around for a while yet.
And we’re pronouncing it JIMP?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do males complain about female-led stories or too many female characters when the majority are still dominated by males?English
8·1 year agoA lot of writers apparently have no idea how to write interesting female characters. Some of the pushback from viewers / readers to increasing the number of female characters isn’t about the characters being female, it’s about them being bad characters. Boring, annoying, quippy, etc.
Nobody wants to admit that their movie flopped because it wasn’t very good, so they blame sexism. Or piracy, that one’s always popular.

131·1 year agoit’s a good beginner distro because getting thrown into deep water is how one learns to swim
That’s… not how it works, for distros or for actual swimming. Usually when someone who can’t swim is thrown into deep water, they drown and/or reinstall Windows which is much the same thing.
Isn’t this the guy who got called out for trying to use social media brigading to force Linux kernel rust patches through? There’s a good chance those stalkers are fictional.
