Not sure what the use case is here but Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) works great.
Depends on what you’re trying to do with the webcam.
If you just want to take pictures and videos, you can use Cheese.
If you want the webcam to be accessible to other devices on your network so you can view it remotely, you can use Motion (requires a small amount of configuration, but afterward it Just Works)

I’d recommend Cheese (e.g.:
apt install cheese) since it requires virtually no setup to start recording video and photos.Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) also works for this purpose, but requires more setup, generally.
Does it matter what kind of cheese?
Yes, it needs to be Cheese not cheese.
