No tray support or other basic features. Just shows piped output from custom commands, from what I can tell.
Checked out a few other “minimalist” options from the list, and they are similar.
I’m looking for something that has a tray, and supports showing toplevels and workspaces without relying on compositor-specific IPC mechanisms. Something that can replace what comes built-in with Awesome.
True… But you get the point!
What point?
waybardepends on gtk-layer-shell/gtk3.ironbardepends on gtk4-layer-shell, which is disappointing since it’s implemented in Rust.If there is an option that doesn’t incur a GTK or QT dependency, I would like to know about it.
Lots of options in https://github.com/rcalixte/awesome-wayland#widgets-bars-panels-etc though you kinda have to guess if they use GTK or not.
There’s https://github.com/greshake/i3status-rust for example?

Not wayland. With x11, you have many options.
Of course waybar is for Wayland, but maybe Wayland isn’t the best choice
