Long story short there is a dispute between my upstairs neighbors (a couple) and I and it has escalated to the point he is somehow attacking me from above. The situation is worse than you can imagine.
When I lie down in bed, I feel downward pressure pushing my head down into my pillow to the point where the back of my head hurts. My chin is also being pushed downwards and I can also feel pressure around my eyes. When I rest on the side of my head, there is pressure felt on my neck to the point I have trouble swallowing saliva.
While this is happening I can feel them moving around above me like they are shifting their feet. There are no sounds, however, except for the occasional floor creak.
This sensation is also similarly felt when I am working from my desk. Somehow my body is being pulled back hard, so hard that it hurts. It’s the same sensation as sitting in a car that has stopped and then suddenly begins moving forward. If I sit up so that my back isn’t touching the back of the chair, my body is being pulled back so that I am sitting back. It’s like a magnet is pulling me back.
This has been a recent escalation but for the past few weeks they were attacking me a different way. I believe they were using the weight of their body to shift from side to side and literally moving my body to sway side to side. At times they have done this when I am vulnerable such as putting on pants or sitting down on the toilet. This has caused me to lose balance but not fall.
My hypothesis is that since the floors are connected to the walls, which are then connected to the ceiling, it is possible to make movement felt by your downstairs neighbor. By leaning hard to one side, pressure could also be exerted - maybe?
What physics are at play here? Or could they be weaponizing some device perhaps a medical device. I mentioned the feeling of being pulled back like a magnet when sitting in my office chair.
There’s nothing for me to use as evidence if I were to go to the police. My only idea is to video record myself when this happens, but it’s still a long shot.
I think this is my favourite April fools post so far
Time for a trip to the doctor’s office. There is no such way to attack someone.
It’s worded as “somehow” in your post because of how impossible it is.
Choose from:
- You have an undiagnosed medical issue that is making you feel something unusual when you lie down. Inner ear infection sounds possible.
- You have an undiagnosed psychological issue that makes you think you are under attack when you are not.
- You’re correct and your neighbours are using something unknown to common science.
3 is unlikely to the point of impossibility. Anyone telling you different, perhaps in your DMs, will be seeking to manipulate you, or are also unwell themselves.
1 could be paired with 2, so there is a genuine feeling, but you are misidentifying its cause. Go see a doctor.
- There’s Carbon Monoxide involved.
Havana couple of beers, eh?
Seriously get yourself checked out and see if the feelings persist in a hotel or in a friend’s place nearby. It’s entirely possible you’re getting blood pressure shifts on lying down that are causing other symptoms. Barometric pressure shifts can trigger all of these symptoms too, and the climate is getting pretty active lately. How are your sinuses? Could be sinus headaches. Take some decongestants.
The closest to an actual resolvable external cause for these symptoms is low frequency noise from data centers or unbalanced industrial cooling fans. Turn off any ac/heater you have, see if it persists. Check any exhaust fans. Maybe grab a decibel meter?
Actually, reading this again, your inner ear is probably going a bit off-program. I’d mention the symptoms to a doctor without accusing your neighbor, possibly an ENT or headache specialist. Maybe grab a motion sickness med (meclizine) and give it a try, it’ll call those signals a little.
Ooh, and are you dehydrated? Overhydrated? How are your salt levels? Salt is important. How about a daily multivitamin?
If your neighbour had some sort of device that was capable of exerting an unseen force with the power to translate through walls and ceilings in a way that leaves them intact but somehow is noticeably uncomfortable to humans then they wouldn’t be living in the apartment above you.
They would be living on a clandestine military base somewhere and their morning routine would involve putting on a fancy uniform and commuting via electric buggy through a network of deep tunnels.
Go see a doctor.
Check the batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors.
I took them out because the beeping was giving me a headache
Have you tried sleeping in somewhere else, like a couch in a different room? It could the the bed/pillow itself that makes it really hard to sleep. External sounds could also disturb your sleep too, maybe try some earplugs before sleeping? My sleep schedule got fucked around the times a construction started near where i live and i couldnt sleep properly until I started using earplugs, though other comments suggest an possible ear infection, so I’d highly suggest you to consult a doctor before doing so
In an hypothesis where your neighbor could cause shake your walls by leaning side to side, the apartment itself would be way too weak and it wouldn’t pass any building inspection before being sold in the first place.
Pretty much every response you get is going to be telling you to go and see a doctor, because that is the next logical thing to do. You don’t need to tell them you think your neighbour is causing it, just that you’re feelling this imbalance, and describe the symptoms.
There’s a variety of things that could be causing these sensations, and you’ll need to rule out the obvious ones first.
Vertigo could give you these sorts of sensations, and can be triggered or worsened by stress, which you’re clearly feeling, as well as a variety of other medical issues, which your doctor should investigate. Things like an inner ear infection can be treated, but it could also be a symptom of something more serious, such as a mimor stroke or other damage.
Another aspect to check is your physical environment. Make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm properly installed near any appliance that burns fuel, and also get your hone checked for gas leaks. Both can cause unpleasant effects, and both are very dangerous too. Get your electrics checked too, as something wrong there could also be causing an effect, like buzzing at a high frequency, the manifests itself in weird bodily sensations. Whilst you’re at it, check your neighbourhood for any new industrial or manufacturing that might be releasing noxious fumes. Walk around and smell for any gas leaks outdoors too, just in case.
If you’ve ruled out physical health concerns and environmental issues, the most probable cause is psycological. To be clear, this doesn’t make the symptoms any less real, or suggest you’re just imagining them. Stress, and it clear that you are very stressed by the situation with your neighbours, can manifest in a variety of unpleasant ways, including the sorts of symptoms you’ve described, and worse. Talking to a mental health professional would be a good step to helping you deal with all of this, even if it’s not a reaction to the stress of the unplesant situation you find yourself in with your neighbours.
Whatever the cause, I hope you manage to resolve it.
There is no such device. What you need is, in all likelihood, a therapist, or a doctor in any case.
I should have mentioned this in my post, but I am not a paranoid individual. I am perfectly sane and there are no mental health issues.
This shit is really happening, but I don’t know how.
That is, indeed, what every paranoid individual thinks. If people were aware of being paranoid, they wouldn’t be paranoid.
Think about what’s more likely: your neighbors torturing you with some kind of sci-fi tech, or you having a medical condition?
Which is exactly what everyone says after someone responds that they are not paranoid.
People can say they’re not paranoid and actually be telling the truth (in the eyes of others not just their own).
Sure. But all I’m saying is to consider the possibility, since if it were a paranoid delusion, you wouldn’t know it. It would feel completely real to you, because that’s how it works.
And I’m not even saying that it’s necessarily that. There are many medical conditions that could cause the type of pain you describe. Maybe see a GP first.
But your neighbors using some kind of “device” on you - that’s extremely unlikely and AFAIK not even possible in the way you describe.
How do you know you’re not imagining anything? What clues are you using to come to that conclusion?
You absolutely need to see a doctor.
- you have no proof you are perfectly sane. You may be experiencing some type of mental illness, you may even have a carbon monoxide leak (as in that very famous Reddit post), but in any case proof of sanity can really only be obtained through testing by a professional.
- as the other reply states, there is no such device which can cause the symptoms you’re feeling.
Be logical here, the most likely explanation is that your brain is not behaving for some reason.
OP please listen to this advice. You may not think it’s warranted, but please talk to a health professional about this. Your post has telltale signs delusional, paranoid thinking.
The worst that can happen is the doctors will say nothing is wrong and you will be out a few bucks. But more likely they will help you find out what is happening much better than strangers on Lemmy ever could.
If you absolutely refuse to go to a medical professional, at least check your apartment for carbon monoxide or black mold.
Good luck.
First, I’m sorry you are in a dispute with your neighbors.
Second, it is unlikely, bordering on inconceivable, that the sensations you are experiencing are something your neighbor is physically doing to you. Physically, it’s not possible to enact the forces required for the sensations you’re describing without direct contact.
Please contact a doctor to discuss what you’re experiencing: it could be an underlying medical condition.
Symptoms are similar to vertigo. Do you have any new stresses or medications lately? Ask a doctor to rule that out - it could be a sign of a larger health problem and you want to rule that out before you can start considering external causes.
