They mention the use of LLM. Did the LLM create any code in the project?
“From Scratch” yet they used coding agents which have ingested all source code known to man. Cool, but not from scratch.
By that definition no human programmer writes anything from scratch either.
If you’re going to quote “one month” then you better train all the LLMs that you’re using from scratch in that one month, too. People who do things from scratch also learn it from scratch.
LLM is a general purpose tool, it’s not trained on a specific task. Again, using this logic you’d have to train a human developer from scratch for every program you write.
If I claim to write a program from scratch, then yes, I will train myself from scratch.
That’s not what writing a program from scratch means lmfao.
Why are people still so obsessed with overpriced Apple iLandfill, yet no one wants to reverse engineer NVidia cards to help improve nouveau?
Or how about the many Realtek WiFi/Bluetooth chips? Or that one Xtensa-based video chip inside the Pinebook Pro and some Chromebooks which provides an extra DisplayPort video out?There are so many pieces of hardware that still lack drivers or have absolutely awful drivers and yet everyone always seems to flock to the latest Apple shit.
Simple answer is that there’s still nothing comparable to M architecture. It has the benefit of unified memory and SoC which eliminates the bus. And being RISC, it has small fixed size instructions which can be read in batches, then any instructions that don’t have a dependency within the batch can be executed in parallel. This makes it possible to just add more cores and parallelize against them. You can’t do this with CISC because instructions are all different length, and figuring out the dependencies and what needs to be read into a batch becomes expensive really fast negating the gains of running stuff in parallel.
Most people hack stuff they have.
Also I thought nouveau is decent at older cards? They got Kepler supporting either vk1.3 or 1.4.
Also there is a driver for the the Mali gpu on the pinebook pro. The person who mainly worked on the Panfrost driver actually works at Intel now in their graphics driver division.
Also wtf is this Xtensa video chip. All I see of it is just a risc-v core/cpu for embedded stuff like Audio processing (Chromebook) and the pinebook pro uses an rk3399 which didn’t even have one.
