I saw a video in which some characters of the Fallout tv show open a fridge and find an alien and just toss it out because they want the working fridge. I’ve never understood (or really bothered with) why Fallout had the nuclear “event” which triggered the use of the shelters. Was it an alien invasion?
They are scouting out earth iirc, its a recurring easter egg. there was a really cool easter egg in fallout 3 way in the north that was pretty much impossible to find

There was a whole dlc attached to that crash site called Morhership Zeta.
If you didn’t have thtat DLC it was an unmarked location pretty far from any notable place. I only found it because I was determined to fill the map out

In the lore, the “Zetans” have visited/researched Earth for at least a few centuries (the Mothership Zeta DLC for FO3 has you meeting different characters like a feudal samurai, a cowboy from the old west, and an astronaut from before the bombs dropped). They are not why the world ended though.
Before The Great War, international tensions were at an all-time high, with global resources dwindling to dangerous levels. The US fought a war against China and annexed Canada, which the US occupation was more like turning the entire country into one big internment camp. The real reason why the nuclear apocalypse happened hasn’t been explained in any of the Fallout media yet, but it feels like the show is going to reveal it at some point if it didn’t already. But that’s also not really the point of the games/story of Fallout in general; the tagline is literally “War Never Changes” because it’s about human nature.
You should watch the show. It’s great and very accessible for someone who hasn’t played the games. Plus it might give you the itch to try them out, and they’re incredibly fun.

Considering all the “experimental” Vaults and whatnot, and how politically powerful Vault-Tec appeared to be, the vibe I get is that there might have been some sort of conspiracy.
I read a comment online saying the Fallout TV series implies that Vault Tec started WW3 and let the apocalypse begin all because they wanted to conduct vault experiments, I really hope that’s not the actual reason, cuz that would be really stupid.
You’re right, that would be really stupid, just like Americans fighting over guns in a zombie apocalypse (ammo and medicine are the real limited supplies, especially if you suck at fighting zombies), or killing off a couple percent of your population because wearing masks is uncomfortable. So it seems very plausible.
why would it be stupid? this isn’t ‘implied’; that’s literally the story. ignoring that the Fallout TV show is really just an incoherent misanthropic screed which is an extension of Todd’s contempt for New Vegas, Obsidian and Interplay:
the resource wars weren’t going to end any time soon, the USian people were getting tired and socialist sympathies were rising. it was established in New Vegas that the US false-flagged themselves in order to justify a nuclear exchange against China in order to cull the population and reënact Manifest Destiny. part of the Enclave’s whole deal is trying to genocide the wastelanders to prepare North America for recolonisation.
it’s been my headcanon as far back as Interplay’s Fallout that an Americanist cabal believed the USian people were the US’s true enemy, and that by false-flagging themselves they could force a chosen few into the vaults where they could experiment eugenically with creating the ideal society to inherit the post-apocalyptic world free of foreign adversaries.
VaultTec’s product is the end of the world, so they sold the end of the world.

Also, I’m just gonna say that I absolutely hate how people will still claim that Todd hates New Vegas/Obsidian; he’s gone on record multiple times saying that’s not the case, the entirety of season 2 of the show was literally “New Vegas 2.” The only reason your playthrough/ending of NV isn’t canon is because in lore it’s been about 15+ years since, and we all know nothing is ever permanent in Fallout.
I’m getting real tired of people spreading straight-up false information because it makes them feel better about a game they played when they were 10-13.

Absolutely. Pair that with the fact that they were/are working with the Enclave (another thing with Fallout, Vault-Tec and the Enclave, two of the biggest shadiest agencies in pre-war America, are actually still active 200 years later), it’s almost guaranteed.
I thought that it was canon that China used brand new stealth tech to bomb the us back to the stone age.

I remember the TV series having a few scenes with the cowboy’s wife, mr house, etc. discussing that they should do the first strike. I don’t remember whether they were planning to hit China or themselves. Could also be that someone beat them to it.

Media literacy is absolutely dead.
It’s because people get on their phones and don’t actually watch it.
I understand if its a comfort show you have seen before that you put on for background noise but no dude they will do it with a brand new show some that they even want to actually watch and they just can’t bring themselves to actually set the phone down and do it.
Then they have the nerve to ask you what’s going on.
Tbh that could be from pre-Bethesda lore. As far as I know the old “Fallout Bible” book is no longer fully canon, but some things still are.
Convenientional war started before. Some time during the war Americans started mass producing power armors and that gave a massive advantage. With that advantage, they started invading China.
That was end of war records in Fallout 2. The implications are obvious I believe.
Thank you for the explanation. As for the games and show - I have played Fallout 4 but the mandatory garish graphics made me pukish and I left the game at about 25% done. Never went back to it. Felt very stupid that they would choose to make the graphics bad as a theme of the game when I was playing on the Xbox One, specially when a lot of people report that the game makes them pukish.
As for the show… the no nose guy creeps me out. That’s why I didn’t bother with the show.

Yes. Though it didn’t happen initially. It just developed over time with that game and after a point I couldn’t play a single minute without feeling nauseous.
You’re holding yourself back from some great storytelling and worldbuilding all because you don’t like the look of the graphics. I’ve literally never heard anyone say they feel nauseous from playing any Fallout game.
Also, you’d find the ghouls from any of the games before FO4/the show extremely discomforting if you didn’t like how The Ghoul looks in the show.
In lore, ghouls are insanely irradiated and mutated humans to the point they basically literally turn into leprous zombies. They’re functionally immortal, radiation heals them kinda like Wolverine (that one may be a bit of a retcon), and a lot of them lose their minds from the whole ordeal and go “feral.” In Fallout 3 in particular, there’s a location that’s populated entirely by ghouls and you can ask them what it’s like. At least one of them goes into detail about what it felt like when their face-skin peeled off, along with their nose.
Again, you’re really holding yourself back from enjoying a fantastic universe, but you do you.
Fair about the tv show. But the game made me nauseous and a few google searches did show me that others felt it too. I wanted to do finish the game. But I physically couldn’t.
Oh well.
Also, yeah I’m not a fan of the zombie genre in general.
